Here we are — sadly the 57th Montreux Jazz Festival is coming to an end. In case you weren’t aware — the Montreux Jazz Festival (MJF) is a legendary event that takes place every summer in the picturesque town of Montreux, Switzerland. Founded in 1967 the festival has become an iconic destination for music aficionados from all over the world who come to enjoy an incredible lineup of jazz, blues, rap, pop, rock and any genre performers.

One of the things that makes the Montreux Jazz Festival so special is its stunning location on the shores of Lake Geneva(Lac Léman for the locals) which provides the perfect setting for a summer of music and celebration.

The festival takes place in several venues around the town — all not far from another. This year the festival’s format boasted two paying venues both indoors and six free stages. The former are the famous Auditorium Stravinski and Montreux Jazz Lab (previously Miles Davis Hall) and the latter — the free ones are the Lake House, Ipanema, Lisztomania, Terrasse ibis Music, El Munda and the very new Super Bock Stage. The MJF has always been the site of many historic performances over the years. Indeed, the festival is renowned for its star-studded lineup of performers, featuring jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Nina Simone, and Duke Ellington, as well as legendary rock and blues artists like Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King. But not only — pop and other genre artists have blessed the stage of the MJF this year british superstar Stormzy, Brazilian artist Anitta or Jeff Beck have performed. The festival has also provided a platform for up-and-coming musicians to showcase their talents — making it a great place to discover new music.
