The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, comes to an end and leaves space for THE glamorous sporting event of January!
The Snow Polo World Cup is held within the same Swiss region; namely, in St. Moritz (Sankt Moritz) the luxury alpine resort in the Engadin valley. Snow-capped mountains, VIP white tents, fantastic polo players, first-class equine animals and Perrier-Jouët champagne are all elements that render St. Moritz’s Snow Polo World Cup’s uniqueness.
Indeed, the small yet very high-profile alpine resort hosts every last weekend of January its Snow Polo World Cup on its frozen lake. You heard right… On the frozen lake! During this time of the year the best Polo players get to compete on the frozen lake in front of part of the world’s wealthiest — all, in fur coats and haute couture ski wear clad. While some of us were getting ready for the Grammy’s in LA, others at LeCircles indulged in attending the prestigious three-day Polo tournament. So bear with us…
This year was the Snow Polo St. Moritz’s 36th edition which drew a high-profile crowd as usual. This is no surprise since already back during the 1800s — St. Moritz has always been a getaway favorite for the upper class — billionaires and royalty alike.
As for the Snow Polo World Cup, the entire event is held on the frozen lake where gold-platted Polo player statues are set up with white VIP tents and a Grand Stand (Perrier-Jouët’s stage) with a panoramic view on the icy field. The entire beauty of the event is that its a perfect mix of high-level of competition and sophistication. Moreover, the general admission to the games are free of charge. Sole the access to the Grand Stand, VIP tents and various soirées are of charge. But again, having a perfect seat never hurt nobody.
The entire event is perfectly orchestrated — from the fine catering paired with champagne to the warm fluffy blankets — all of the competition was of a unique touch. We were definitely delighted to see the matches between the four teams — St.Moritz, Badrutt’s Palace, Maserati & Azerbidjan Land of fire. Despite being surrounded by a perfect scenery and a top-notch catering — we were more pleased to see team St. Moritz lift the trophy!
See you to next year’s edition!
Cheers to that!
